Abstract

Sarcopenia is a disease characterized by loss of skeletal muscle. Leucine, a branched-chain amino acid, is beneficial for muscle synthesis and health, therefore incorporation of high leucine foods promotes the synthesis of muscle mass. Omics sciences, especially bioinformatics allowed in silico analysis of metabolic fluxes. To determine the leucine metabolic fluxes, we performed a bioinformatical analysis resulting in a leucine consumption model that consider the leucine intake by arterial route, exit of leucine from the cell to the vein, the cleavage of protein releasing leucine into the cell, and the release of leucine to the cell without being metabolized. The kinetics of leucine obtained by the whole-body model was 3.26 µm/kg-1min -1 . [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
