Abstract

The model of Person-Centred Care (PCC) has as fundamental principles the emphasis on the person within its context, individualized attention and empowerment. However, studies about this approach on mental illness (MI) are scarce. The aim of this work is to carry out a systematic review of articles studying the approach of PCC provided by professional caregivers in people with MI. After analysis of the 19 articles, the results show that PCA leads to positive outcomes for patients, such as increased patient engagement, adherence and quality of treatment, and the opportunity to better manage their disease, as well as for professionals, such as better conditions to support them and an "optimistic attitude". However, more information for users, more emphasis on the relationship between users and services, and more training of professionals are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
