Abstract
- A reversible fluorescent colorimetric chemosensor L based on a novel mono Schiff base of malononitrile for detection of bicarbonate ion has been established. It demonstrates an excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards bicarbonate ion by change in both colour, absorption and fluorescence intensity. L provides rapid response time and it may be useful as a valuable practical sensor for environmental analyses of bicarbonate ion. [Display omitted] • A reversible fluorescent colorimetric chemosensor L based on a novel mono Schiff base of malononitrile has been established. • L can selectively detect bicarbonate ion with LOD 1.6x10-6M. • L is useful as a valuable practical sensor for environmental analyses of bicarbonate ion. A reversible fluorescent colorimetric chemosensor for fast detection of bicarbonate ion has been established based on a novel mono Schiff base of malononitrile. The chemosensor L is easy to synthesize, eco-friendly and cost effective. It demonstrates an excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards bicarbonate ion by change in both color, absorption and fluorescence intensity. The anion recognition occurs indirectly through coordination of counter metal ion to the Schiff-base ligand. The sensitivity of for bicarbonate ion is much lower than WHO recommended value. L provides rapid response time and it may be useful as a valuable practical sensor for environmental analyses of bicarbonate ion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
