Abstract

Language is part of the symbolic universe of man, it shows the degree of culture and social development that defines him as a species. Its study deserves an interdisciplinary approach, since its importance transcends the spellings captured on paper or the articulation of sounds through syllables. From a philosophical perspective, language and consciousness are articulated to decode reality and lead man towards his historical development. From sociolinguistics, language is evaluated from its social uses, in the midst of the communicative interaction between different linguistic groups. This research highlights the importance of language teaching, however, leaving aside the normative and descriptive criteria that do not take into account social facts or the context in which learning takes place. The work does not pretend to establish a definitive position regarding the subject, on the contrary, it points towards the need to reinforce the teaching of language and to point out the value it has as an instrument of social transformation.
