During the first phase of the Weimar Republic, between 1919 and 1923, the German people found themselves confronted with one of the most severe hyperinflations in modern history. One hundred years later, the stages of this process are traced, briefly highlighting both the political logic as well as the revolutionary nature of inflation. Highlighting, too, the lessons of “the last knight of liberalism”, Ludwig von Mises, it is recalled how an effective and realistic defense of the currency must be accompanied by a philosophical counterrevolution.
