The author explores ethnic makeup in opera and how challenging its use has supported race-conscious casting in the industry. He considers opera as a musical and vocal genre and views that casting decisions must be based on vocal colors and abilities. He believes that Asian sopranos should not only sing Asian roles and that casting of opera roles should be colorblind. He suggests color-conscious casting in order to represent different people from diverse backgrounds.
