Abstract

Ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi serve key functions in forest ecosystems by supplying water and nutrients to tree hosts, yet mutualistic plant–fungi interactions are jeopardised by environmental alterations. Here, we discuss the great potential and current limitations of landscape genomics in investigating signatures of local adaptation in natural populations of ECM fungi. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
