Abstract

I write in response to your article on what it means for a child to have their own room[1] and would like to provide a cross-cultural perspective, since privacy, independence and "personal space" are viewed very differently across different cultures. Co-sleeping and the family bed are the norm in many cultures until children are often into double digit years. Sibling room shares are a necessity but also the expectation, even for those with the economic means to provide "a room of their own" for each child. [Extracted from the article]
