Abstract

This paper describes design of a compact triple-band dipole antenna for wearable devices. The proposed antenna is printed on rubber substrate with thickness of 1.5 mm and dielectric constant of 3.2. The antenna consists of the radiating element printed on the top side of the substrate and the rectangular tuning bar printed on the back side of the substrate. The proposed antenna has triple-band performance at 2.45 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 5.25 GHz. The simulated results of the proposed antenna show the fractional impedance bandwidths of 9.6%, 7.25% and 5.3%, and the realized gains of 2.16, 3.49 and 3.88 dBi, respectively. The performance of the antenna under different bending conditions has also been presented at all resonant frequencies. The overall size of the proposed antenna is (0.27 λo × 0.23 λo × 0.012 λo) at (2.45 GHz). The antenna is an excellent fit for modern wearable applications in which wireless devices demand an antenna that is attached to a conformal plane. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
