Abstract

After the end of the Great War, new forms of dictatorial power emerged on the European continent, characterized by being led by "avant-garde political parties" and "charismatic leaders". The aforementioned dictatorships became the support of salvific and totalizing ideologies, placed at the service of both a grand project of social equalization and the legitimization of select minorities who proclaimed themselves defenders of a palingenetic program of national salvation. Whether it was a matter of launching a vast program of ethnic or biological homogenization, or whether the goal was nothing more than to ensure the success and global expansion of the proletarian revolution, some of the bloodiest totalitarian dictatorships of the 20th century ended up becoming the purest expression of a new model of absolute and exclusive state domination.
