Abstract
- The article describes, a Cahuilla Native American, on her first period, the traditional celebrations that have been lost due to colonialism and the erasure of Native American culture, and her own struggles with the debilitating effects of her menstrual cycle. It discusses the historical and ongoing impact of the US government's regulation and exploitation of Native American female bodies and how these practices have contributed to the erasure of traditional menstruation ceremonies.
