Abstract
- Semiconductor optical fiber is currently in high demand because of its significant potential in sensors. ZnO is a good material that can support and enhance the performance of fiber optics. The addition of ZnO film on the hetero-core fiber optics with good core size and refractive index can deliver a special outcome based on the power intensity. In this study, comparison between fiber structure is analysed in term of wavelenght and ZnO film coated on hetero-core portion of fiber optics. The optical propagation losses of such structures are simulated using the COMSOL Multiphysics for different wavelengths (1310 and 1550 nm), refractive index, fiber structure (9–50–9 and 50–9–50 µm) and ZnO thickness (10–50 µm). The results show that 1310 nm of wavelength affected the sensitivity of the design structure. Moreover, the transmittance at the output terminal increased as the ZnO thickness increased using 50–9–50 µm. Initial experiment results show that such optical fibers have the potential for sensitivity. The simulation results in this work guide realizing improved performance in practice.
