Abstract
- Introduction: The phenomenon of mobbing is considered one of the most serious forms of mobbing in the workplace with a highly corrosive and toxic effect on the work environment. This is a phenomenon that has serious negative effects on the health, safety of workers and the quality of their working life, as well as on the productive results and competitiveness of organizations. Objective: The recording of the moral harassment of the nurses of the General Hospital of Corfu to highlight the extent of the phenomenon and to investigate the relationship in terms of gender, age, department, years of service and their educational level. Method: For the implementation of the research, a recording method was chosen with a target population of all the nursing staff of the General Hospital of Corfu. The survey was conducted from 01.02.2020-31.05.2020. Results: Questionnaires were given to the population and 114 completed were returned, which are the data to be processed, the response rate amounted to 81,4%. Of the participants, 83,3% were women and the mean age was 45,5 years (SD = 7.8 years). The average length of service in their service was 18,9 years (SD = 9,5 years), while in a specific department it was 7,4 years (SD = 4,5 years). Of the 114 participants, 45 (39,5%) had fallen victim to mobbing, 39,5% of the participants had suffered psychological violence at work in the last 12 months, with the main reasons for poor work organization and competition problems between individuals at 46,7% and 44,4% respectively, while 40,4% of participants had experienced psychological violence against another person in the workplace in the last 12 months. Conclusions: Mobbing is a real problem at Corfu General Hospital with a greater extent in the nursing sector. This conclusion leads to the need of an early diagnosis of mobbing existence and to the adoption of measures to prevent this phenomenon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
