SE VOCÊ ESTÁ PROCURANDO A PRISÃO, VOCÊ ENCONTROU A TERRA: PENSANDO PERIFERIA E ENCARCERAMENTO A PARTIR DA CPT JUAZEIRO.

In this article I present a set of formulations, enunciated or activated of the Pastoral Land Commission of Juazeiro-BA, regarding the relations between the land expropriation process triggered by the construction of the Sobradinho dam and the expansion of the peripheries of Juazeiro and Petrolina-PE. The formulation that I take as a guide for this set and that I use as the title of this article was formulated by Marina Rocha Braga, agent of this pastoral service. It was she who called my attention to these relationships, saying that the study of the peripheries and prisons of these cities requires an understanding of the captivity of the land. In the first part of this article I deal with this meeting with Marina and its initial developments, while in the second part I try to show how this problem raised by her is consolidated in other formulations made by pastoral agents and by companions of communities affected by large energy projects, but also how it connects to older formulations that also compose or were triggered by the same pastoral work. In the third and last part I present five examples that were exposed to me by Marina to explain what captivity is, and then, risking a generalization, I indicate how they provide elements to think about the urban peripheries of Juazeiro and Petrolina as captivity par excellence, as well as to organize the data I have been gathering on prison and police expansion in these two cities.
