Abstract
- Homosexuality in the Western world has been considered since the 19th century as a pathology to be treated due to the fear that it would alter/ contagious "the moral health of the homeland". This aspect is crucial, given that being described as a disease by the medicine of the time, it is assigned a profoundly negative moral connotation based on perversion, death and the hideous that survives to date. In order to evidence the persistence today of the understanding of homosexuality according to disease metaphors, a visual and narrative analysis of several relevant Spanish LGTBI+ films of the last decades is carried out. The main themes analysed are HIV/AIDS and death and loneliness. Although it is undeniable that the image of the homosexual has been considerably modified, the film analysis shows that characterising these changes as positive evolution as a deconstruction of the pathological inheritance is a more complex task. The findings show that the deployment of these discourses, while adapting to the different needs of representation and historical contexts, is shown as a constant that allows us to speak of "pathological inheritance".
