In vivo 18F-fluoride-PET imaging reveals pronounced heterogeneity in bone formation in multiple myeloma patients Following treatment, the SP 18 sp F-fluoride-uptake in the centres became significantly higher than in normal bone (Figure 2; 8.4 vs 5.9, I p i = 0.018), whereas bone density on CT scan remained less than in normal bone, although less pronounced (Figure 2; 83 vs 137, I p i = 0.04). Accordingly, the change in SP 18 sp F-FDG uptake in the centres of the lesions was inversely correlated with the change in Hounsfield unit (HU) value at these centres (Spearman's I i SB 23 sb = -0.648, I p i = 0.049), further supporting the association of treatment response and bone mineralisation in MM. Unexpectedly, the SP 18 sp F-fluoride-uptake in the centres was comparable to that in normal bone (5.3 vs 5.4, I p i = 0.94). [Extracted from the article]
