Abstract

The new bioethics law adopted in 2021 has reformed gamete donation. The latter remains sealed by the anonymity between the partners but the right to origins is now legalized. Offsprings resulting from a gamete donation will be able to learn the identity of their donor when they reach the age of legal majority. This change was made possible by the relentless efforts and mobilization of Donor Insemenation children, whose public testimonies have challenged today’s society. This change is also facilitated by the expansion of DNA testing, which renders the current prohibitions obsolete. Today, tomorrow, young adults born from a donation find their donors as well as half-brothers and sisters. New relationships are formed. This law, originally conceived to only allow the interconnection between the donor and the child of the donation, generates the creation of links that go way further and question once again the sociological approach of contemporary families.
