COMUNICAÇÃO DA ENFERMEIRA EM CUIDADOS PALIATIVOS: UM RELATO DE EXPERIÊNCIA.

An experience report with the purpose of describing an empirical experience of a nurse during the attention to an elderly patient under hospital palliative care, with emphasis to communication. A descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, characterized as an experience report of a nurse in a private hospital located in the state of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The report describes the experience of a nurse using communication as a strategy in the care of an elderly patient under palliative care. The study demonstrated that communication is indispensable for attaining comprehensive care, as envisaged for palliative care, as well as an improved end-of-life care during the final stages of patients without perspective of cure. Adequate communication by the nurse creates trust and safety to the patient and family members, substituting feelings of fear, uncertainty and pain, commonly reported by patients under palliative care.
