The exhibit was especially personal to Adams because he painted the images from old family photographs from the 1980s that his sister had found, including scenes from family baptisms and ordinary images of bus stops and children playing. Adams won the contest and, as an award, his painting was hung at City Hall in Baltimore in an exhibition called My Heritage: Myself. Adams opened an artist retreat for Black creatives in Baltimore in 2022 called the Last Resort, where artists could spend time relaxing and focusing on their work.
