Abstract

Ever since the beginning of the International Summit on Genome Editing in November 2018 the issue has reached a new pinnacle of discussion. At that time, Chinese scientist Je Jiankui announced the birth of gene-manipulated twins using the processs of CRISPR/CAS9 on YouTube. My interdisciplinary doctoral thesis is concerned with today‘s ethical debate on germline therapy in humans. The thesis follows the medical and scientific foundation of genome editing procedures and ends predominantly in a legal evaluation based on German law. What are the criminal law limits of genome editing measures? How can genome editing be embedded in the constitutional context and in health systems, today and in the future? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
