Abstract

The life and work of Virginia Pereira Álvarez, one of the first women to graduate as a elementary school teacher in Venezuela, was the first woman to take and pass the exam for "Bachelor of Philosophy" at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV). First to start studying at UCV (Medicine, 1911), first teacher at a Venezuelan university (teacher assistant, UCV, 1912), first Venezuelan to publish a scientific research article (coauthor, 1912) and the first Venezuelan woman to graduate as a medical doctor (Philadelphia, United States, 1920).
