Abstract

This research focuses on Myriam Harry’s literature and the representation of strangers’ images, in this case, Iran, in order to analyze his specificities. In this context, our attention concentrates especially on the travel stories written by Harry at the beginning of the XX century, reflecting on the mechanisms which are the origins of the formation of these hetero and auto images, based on collective imaginary, resulting from the inseparable process between otherness and identity. Relying on the methodological assumptions of imagology, especially those recommended by Daniel-Henri Pageaux, this work pretends to go through the analytical approach of the literary images of the ‘other’. This way, we aimed to answer the questions regarding the otherness while following closely the course of this concept through the places, characters, customs, idioms, and literature which constitute the material of Harry’s work. It is by applying the propositions of Pageaux on the selected works of Harry that this research aims to shed light on the operations of the imagotypical look of the author and her attitudes designated by the words like ‘mania’, and ‘phobia’ or ‘philia’.
