Abstract

Therefore, it is accepted to perform a sigmoidectomy with low tie of the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) [[3]] or a left hemicolectomy with high tie of the IMA and the inferior mesenteric vein (IMV) [[4]]. The gold standard treatment for resectable sigmoid cancer is surgery, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced tumours [[1]]. This additional segment of mesentery extracted by e-CME comprises a triangle with vertices at the high ligation point of the IMA, the high ligation point of the IMV and the left colic artery origin.
