Abstract

Hypertension is the single most important preventable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Various studies were carried out to find herbal ingredients to prevent and treat hypertension. One of the dependable herbal ingredients for the prevention and treatment of hypertension is single garlic. This study aims to analyze the effects of a single garlic extract on the blood pressure of mice fed the High Fat Diet. This experimental study used a randomized block design with 5 treatments and 3 replications. Male mice aged 8 weeks were divided into 5 groups, namely K1/mice was fed with HFD, K2/mice was fed with HFD and given simvastatin, while P1, P2, and P3 were fed HFD and treated with extract single garlic 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg BW, respectively. HFD feeding was carried out for 45 days, and a single garlic extract was given for 4 weeks. Blood pressure measurements were performed at the end of the treatment using a CODA non-invasive blood pressure meter. Data were analyzed using one way ANOVA test. The results show that there is a difference in blood pressure in mice given HFD compared to mice given single garlic. The effective doses for lowering blood pressure are 100 mg/kg BW and 200 mg/kg BW. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
