Abstract

Objective: The objective of this work was to qualitatively analyze the school feeding menus offered to Youth and Adult Education during the years 2017 to 2019 of a city located in western of Bahia. Methods: For data analysis, the Qualitative Assessment Method for School Menu Preparations was used as recommended by Veiros and Martinelli. In this method, foods are classified into two categories: recommended and controlled. For each year, the number of days on which preparations each food group was offered was counted and then the frequencies of days offered were calculated in relation to the total number of school days. Thereby, it was considered adequate the year in which there was less than 20% of the controlled foods and greater presence of the recommended foods. Results: Our analysis shows that the feed offered in the period presented inadequacies, as excessive supply of products with added sugar and low supply of fresh fruits and salads. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that the feed offered may represent a risk to the health of students, by offering a large amount of processed foods, rich in sugars, chemical additives, fats and with low nutritional value.
