Abstract

Objective: We evaluated adverse events to consider the role of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) of the internal pudendal artery for post-traumatic arterial erectile dysfunction in young men. Materials and methods: Study subjects were 32 consecutive cases. Adverse events were classified by Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE). Results: The median age was 35 years, mean observation period was 12.8, months and 15 adverse events were identified: vascular spasm in 9 cases, penile/perineal pain in 2 cases, thrombosis in 2 cases, penile/perineal hypoesthesia in 1 case, and arteriovenous fistula formation in 1 case. All were CTCAE Grade 1. Conclusion: In addition to the usual adverse events associated with catheterization, adverse events specific to internal pudendal artery were found in PTA for post-traumatic arterial erectile dysfunction in young men. However, none of them were serious, and all improved. In addition, there were no adverse events that could affect revascularization surgery, which can be required after PTA in some cases. Angiography is an essential examination to determine surgical indications and is performed in all cases. For attempting PTA as a treatment at the same time as angiography, a “PTA first” strategy seems to be appropriate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
