Abstract
- In cases of metastatic cancer to bone, Dr. Raskin noted thatorthopaedic surgeons are often asked to biopsy a lesion;prophylactically stabilize a bone; fix a completed fracture; and,at times, resect a lesion. Location, location Showing an illustration that classified tumor types by locationin bone, Dr. Raskin summarized various bone tumorscharacterized as "predictable", a term he said should be usedwith caution. Osteoblastomas tend to be"on the back of the spine" (posterior elements), whereasaneurysmal bone cysts "can grow just about anywhere butalso usually on the edge of a bone in the metaphyseal area."Chondromyxoid fibroma is "super rare, but when you see it,you know it because it is metaphyseal and on the edge [of thebone]", Dr. Raskin said.
