Abstract: One of the great treasures of the natural world lies nestled in the high desert of eastern California, the Eureka Valley dune field. It rises 680 feet above the base of the valley, making it the highest dune field in California, and the second highest in North America behind Colorado's Great Sand Dunes. Located in Eureka Valley's southern extremity, nestled against the western margin of the steep Last Chance Range of mountains, the dune field is renowned among naturalists and photographers as one of the planet's most beautiful features.
