Abstract

In this study, the protective effects of Vit. C and E on the histopathological changes, antioxidant enzyme activities and changes in malondialdehyde (MDA) levels that can be caused by a carbamate pesticide bendiocarb (BND) in testicular tissue of rats were investigated. Rats were divided into eight groups: group 1 controls; group 2 Vit. C (100 mg kg-1 day-1); group 3 Vit E (100 mg kg-1 day-1); group 4 Vit C plus E; group 5 bendiocarb (0.8 mg kg-1 day-1); group 6 BND and Vit. C; group 7 BND and Vit. E; and group 8 BND and vitamin C and E. After 28 days of treated, when the bendiocarb treated group was compared to the control group, an increase in the MDA level was observed in the testicular tissues of the rats, while antioxidant enzyme activities [superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), glutathione peroxidase (GPx)] a statistically significant decrease in was observed. In histopathological examinations, it was determined that vitamin C and E decreased the pathological changes caused by BND in the testicular tissue of rats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
