Abstract

As part of the revision for South American species of Randia, the identity of two Amazonian species is discussed. Basanacantha inermis, described from Amazonia and known only from the type material, is here recognized as part of Randia's circumscription. The epithet inermis is blocked by an earlier name (Randia inermis Sessé & Moc.), thus the new name R. adolphoduckei is provided here. Basanacantha wittii, also recognized until now only by its original material, is here considered as a new synonym of R. hondensis. A lectotype is chosen for B. inermis and a neotype for R. hondensis. Here, it is presented complete descriptions to Randia adolphoduckei and R. hondensis, including comments concerning its biology and distribution. Additionally, we also provide an illustration to R. adolphoduckei, detailing its mains aspects. A key to distinguish Amazonian species is also provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
