Abstract

Veinous thromboembolism (TEV) is an important cause of death in patients suffering from cancer. Indeed, many publications showed that professional practices recommendations for TEV care in these patients were not well respected. The professional evaluation of professional practices aimed to understand the physicians knowledge level regarding the recommendations for the management of thromboembolic events for patients suffering from cancer. On the one hand, focus was made on the prescription compliance regarding the anticoagulant therapy, its prescribed dose and its time limit, based on SRO-INCa recommendations. On the other hand, the aim of the evaluation was to assess hospital discharge letter compliance compared to HAS recommendations. Following the first trial results in 2017 an information leaflet for patients and a reminder leaflet for physicians were implemented. Furthermore, an hospital discharge letter model was created in order to harmonize this document for all physicians and to prevent them from leaving items out. The obtained results on professional practices between 2019 and 2021 showed a lack of knowledge about recommendations: 51% of compliance on prescriptions in 2020. The hospital discharge letter compliance was also perfectible. This can be explained by the fact that the time limit for the TEV treatment is missing in 59.5% of the discharge letters. The results obtained on the 3 last years are still insufficient and lead us to keep working on physicians training and awareness, enhancing the information spreading and thinking about new tools to help our medical teams.
