An interactive multimedia HPLC: Enhancing student's analytical thinking skills.

Abstract

Interactive Multimedia assisted by an HPLC simulator has been developed as an alternative media in Instrumental Analytical Chemistry Practicum lectures. Research has been conducted to determine the extent to which multimedia that has been developed is effective in increasing mastery of concepts, analytical thinking skills, and student responses. The research method is Quasi-experiment with One group pre-test and post-test design. The instruments used in this study include test and non-test instruments in the form of student satisfaction questionnaires and observation of learning outcomes. The results showed the use of interactive multimedia HPLC assisted by an HPLC simulators increased students' mastery of concepts with an average N-gain of 0.44 (moderate). The results of students' analytical thinking skills increased with an average N-gain of 0.48 (medium). The percentage of students with analytical thinking skills on indicators of matching, classifying, analyzing errors, generalizing, and specifying are 94%, 85%, 71%, 70%, and 59%, respectively. Students give a positive response to this learning. The index of student satisfaction with the use of IMM HPLC is 87.25% (very good). The limitations of learning methods during the Covid-19 pandemic have made IMM HPLC a learning alternative that attracts students' interest and motivation because in addition to containing material descriptions and videos, it is also equipped with practice questions whose results can be immediately known.
