Abstract

The article is about the loss of consciousness, specifically the state of coma. Coma is defined as a state in which the patient does not respond and cannot be awakened. Coma is distinguished from other states of decreased consciousness, such as stupor or lethargy. The possible causes of coma, both structural and metabolic, are mentioned. The importance of clinical and physical evaluation in the diagnosis of coma is also discussed. Some findings that can guide towards the cause of coma, such as anisocoria and high blood pressure, are mentioned. Additionally, the importance of establishing a prognosis in the initial assessment of a comatose patient is highlighted. [Extracted from the article]
