Abstract
- Integrative taxonomy confirms the presence of the enigmatic Lysmata olavoi Fransen, 1991 (Decapoda: Lysmatidae) in the Mediterranean Sea. - The shrimp specimens collected agree well with the description, illustrations, and colour pattern given for the species (Fransen, 1991). In 1991 Charles Fransen described and figured a new species of caridean shrimp, I Lysmata olavoi i (Lysmatidae), based on 29 specimens caught off the island of Pico, the Azores (26 specimens) and off Salvage Islands (3 specimens), in the eastern Atlantic Ocean (Fransen, 1991). The authors do not find a reasonable explanation for the sudden appearance (in small numbers) of I L. olavoi i as a bycatch species in shrimp-traps targeting I Plesionika edwardsii i (J. F. Brandt, 1851) in the waters off the island of Tenerife. [Extracted from the article]
