Abstract

The growth in the incidence of chronic pathologies, such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM), has demonstrated the need to analyze the methods of treatment of this disease. In this sense, this study reports the problems related to non-adherence to treatment among diabetic patients, thus generating new knowledge in the field of health, which can be used for the planning of health actions, evaluating the demands related to non-adherence to pharmacological treatment. Therefore, methodologically, this work carries out a narrative bibliographic study, using articles and academic productions that deal with adherence to drug treatment for DM, and that can respond to the main demands that involve this theme. As a result of this study, we highlight the presentation of at least one type of intervention method to enhance the pharmacological treatment for DM in each study studied, noting in this context that this pathology has become a challenging comorbidity for managers and health professionals. Thus, the present study shows that there is an academic and professional preponderance for the development of intervention strategies that may be used as tools to improve adherence to therapies of patients with DM, with a predilection in the health area for pharmacological treatment for this disease. Therefore, this academic work allows us to point out that interventions are necessary to improve adherence to drug therapy for DM, as these actions can promote potential advances in health care behaviors.
