Optimal post-warranty replacement policies for batteries with mission durations.

Abstract

A widely use of environment-friendly batteries would reduce carbon emissions for the power battery supply chain in industries. From the point of consumers, it is an interesting problem to find optimal post-warranty replacement policies to ensure the batteries’ lifetime and maintain the required reliability for mission executions. For this, we firstly model replacement policies that are planned at the completion of the executed missions after the expiration of warranty. Secondly, the extended policies of replacement first and last are modeled in terms of reliability, cost, and maintainability. All of the expected cost rates are modeled and their optimal solutions are found in analytical ways. Finally, we give a case illustration of maintaining a lithium-ion battery pack in an electric van.
