Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of conducting ethnographic analysis alongside comparative casework. The paper describes the formulation of an ?ethnographic space? and compares its scholarly products with substantive findings from casework. The ethnographic space illumines the activities of ?light, decaffeinated? feminists in Spain and details how such feminists 1) have ?hidden? political goals 2) challenge notions of mainstream feminism and 3) alter the concepts of political allies, movement frames, and state-society relations. I argue that the intersection of diverse women?s activists and the triangulation of methods are useful. Although not without fault, triangulation provides for the elucidation of a new sector of women?s civil society and suggests a refashioning of concepts from the political process model.
