Abstract

This study uses comparative data analysis to examine the differences between European and American attitudes towards foreign aid. I compare data from the Eurobarometer and World Values Survey with data on the U.S. from both the PIPA and Council on Foreign Relations polls. Given important cross-national differences in knowledge and support of foreign aid spending, I develop competing hypotheses based on core values, national interest, and ignorance.
