Abstract

In this paper, a coupled piezoelectric/semiconducting model is established and applied to study the effect of arbitrarily-located axial mechanical loadings on electric potential distribution in ZnO nanofiber, and the corresponding energy bands are computed via an eight-band k·p method. Results show that the band gap can be tuned by about 25 meV at band edges and about 200 meV away from band edges. The maximum valance band and minimum conduction band are located at band edges. The good mechano-electric effect of piezoelectric semiconductors and the simulating method presented in this paper can be used in designing novel semiconductor devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
