Abstract
- In today's digital world, it is common for parents to share social media posts that violate their children's privacy. It has been observed that this situation is vital in the process of digital personhood development and leads to displeasure in children. The role of parents in the development of digital personhood for the 18-21 age group, digital natives, on social media was examined in our study. According to the findings obtained; before sharing content about them on social media, women ask their parents to get permission from them and if they are dissatisfied with the sharing, they demand its removal. Also it was revealed that as the frequency of content sharing about them by the participants' parents increased, partcipants’ contentment level also decreased. On the other hand, it was shown that the participants were unsatisfied with their parents' sharing of their educational lives, which they saw as a violation of their privacy. In terms of textual content, photo and video sharing, it was found that video sharing was the most unpleasant to the participants. Participants also believe that their parents communicate more about themselves for social motivation and parental guidance motivation. In this regard, it is seen that it has become essential for parents to show sensitivity in sharing content on social media for digital natives in order to protect the self-esteem of the child/individual, the right to control over their personal information, the representation and integrity of their personality in the digital world.
