Abstract
- Acheson describes how non-nuclear weapon states shifted from being "outsiders" to "insiders" in nuclear weapons debates, while seeking to ban the bomb and legally prohibit nuclear weapons. For example, Acheson documents the continued oppression of women under patriarchy, as well as the ongoing hierarchical approach to nuclear weapons governance that has been enshrined in various institutional architectures, such as the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Ray Acheson's I Banning the bomb, smashing the patriarchy i is a striking contribution to the literature on nuclear politics. [Extracted from the article]
