VÝBĚR VIDEO FORMÁTŮ V PAMĚŤOVÝCH INSTITUCÍCH.

Purpose - The article deals with approaches of memory institutions to selection of the format for long term and midterm preservation of video. The goal is to present to reader the process of such decision making and factors that influence it. Design/Methodology/Approach - The Article compares recommendation of authoritative memory institutions, approach of local institutions and institutions specializing in film. Results - Following the analysis of format evaluations, recommendations and format policies of select institutions, we concluded that memory institutions preserve digitized analog video in uncompressed or lossless compressed form. Mostly used formats (combinations of codec and container) are JPEG2000/MXF and FFV1/MKV, while the later seems to us as more advantageous for preservation content from digitization of VHS cassettes. Contrary to that, content that those institutions received as lossy, or originated as such is preserved in native format.
