Abstract

Objective The aim of this study is to evaluate the concordance between preoperative and postoperative histopathology in EIN and carcinoma endometrium. Materials and methods 50 consecutive patients of carcinoma endometrium and EIN who were surgically staged at our department from January 2018 to July 2019 were evaluated with regards to concordance between preoperative and postoperative histopathological typing and grading. Results Histopathological typing concordance was seen in 91 % of cases. Grading concordance was assessed in endometrioid histology and found that the concordance rate was 50%, 50% and 87.5% for grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3 respectively. Conclusion Our study identified a good concordance between preoperative and postoperative histopathological typing. However, there was a low concordance between preoperative and postoperative histopathological grade in endometrioid adenocarcinoma. Hence risk stratification for surgical extent based on preoperative biopsy alone is currently not reliable and it is suggested that all patients with carcinoma endometrium should be comprehensively staged including lymph node assessment until better diagnostic tools become available.
