In the last decades of the 18th century, the enslaved population of Chota Valley developed a discourse claiming multiple rights. This culminated in what I have called the creation of a political subject, with its own language and strongly linked to its ancestral territory. Thus, after reading the lawsuits the afrochoteños made by these years, this article will analyze the political actions of rebellion and freedom, such as escapes, confrontations, trials and violent events that allowed the population of the valley to disobey and revolt against colonial authority.
