Abstract

Objective: Our study aimed to investigate the anxiety and depression levels and related factors in healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Method: In this cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study, data was collected from 1174 healthcare workers from August 1, 2020, to September 31, 2020, in a tertiary hospital, Kayseri city. All hospital healthcare professionals were included in the study. Depression and anxiety levels were measured using a nine-item HSA-9 and a seven-item GAD-7. The chi-square test was used to compare categorical variables. Results: One thousand one hundred seventy-four participants of this study completed the questionnaire in two months. The study's average age was 35.9 ± 8.9 and 52.7% (n =619) of the participants in the study were women. While the HSA-9 questionnaire average score of all participants was 9.53 ± 6.53, the GAD-7 questionnaire average score revealed 6.44 ± 5.23. While the rate of major depression was 58.2% (n =683), the anxiety rate was detected as 22.7% (n =266). In terms of major depression, there was a statistically significant difference between gender, age, marital status, education level, occupation, and occupation groups. There was a statistically significant difference between gender, age, marital status, years in the profession, and the unit groups they worked in terms of anxiety. Participants with single marital status and participants working in the pandemic department had a higher level of anxiety. Conclusion: In our study, healthcare professionals working in the city of Kayseri experienced a severe psychological burden at the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
