Abstract

This article deals with how sustainability has impacted the teaching of architecture, from the development of curricula, through a series of good teaching practices, as well as directing the social action strategies of the Campus. These strategies are exemplified with the case of two university extension projects in two chapels in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The joint work of teachers and students, as well as the close work with the communities, fosters academic exercises that consider the resources, technology, and local knowledge of the inhabitants, which has the objective of promoting empathic and critical reflection on the student's future professional practice, as well as promoting the self-management capacity of the communities where the intervention takes place.
