In 1942, the Association of Industrial Medical Officers (AIMO) persuaded the British Medical Association to publish a specialist journal for industrial medicine [[1]]. The AIMO's intent was for the journal to be its official publication; however, the I British Medical Journal i ( I BMJ i ) considered that it should be a I BMJ i journal consistent with its three existing specialist journals [[1]].
