Abstract

A metal thermal spraying technology on composite laminate has been used to integrate aircraft structure load carrying characteristics and anti-icing / de-icing function. A composite functional structure test unit for aircraft anti-icing / de-icing was designed and tests on the unit were carried out to obtain resistance and strength data under different load conditions with considering anti-icing / de-icing in operation or in non-operation. The test results show that the unit resistance increases under the tensile load with the non-operation condition, and the resistance value increases by 40% under the ultimate tensile load with the operation condition, and bending and interlaminar loading have little effect on the resistance. The tensile ultimate strength of the unit is unchanged with the operation condition, the bending ultimate strength is reduced by 10% and the interlaminar ultimate strength is reduce by 36% . It is shown that the functional unit has been proved to keep anti-icing / de-icing function ability before tensile, bending and interlaminar strength failures occur.
