Abstract
- This article discusses the efforts of a speed metal band to promote reading with their music. You might not immediately connect speed metal rock with literacy, but the Seattle-area self-described "edu-core" band BlöödHag consists of four book geeks who sing songs exclusively about their favorite sf authors--e.g., J.R.R. Tolkien, Ray Bradbury, Jules Verne, and Kurt Vonnegut--and then throw copies of those authors' books at their audience during shows, including ones at libraries. Group members say their mission is to use heavy metal to promote reading.
