Abstract

The article discusses the increased and creative use of vintage clothing. A survey of the used clothing market in Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota was conducted to understand motivations for buying and wearing vintage, to determine what created the consumer's interest, and to identify shopping habits. A strong appeal of vintage clothing is the perception of wearers that reconfiguring old, that is, vintage, creates something original. Being able to buy and wear recycled clothes is an important goal to vintage clothing shoppers. The aesthetic trend toward purposefully wearing vintage dress now includes celebrities. Such a revaluing of the market and who wears vintage, to what event, is an important validation.
